There are two ways to turn speech into a reminder on an iPhone. You can ask Siri directly ("Remind me to call Sam on Thursday at 10"), which works when you know exactly what you want and say it in one sentence. Or you can talk normally and let an app find the days you mentioned. Nuro does the second: it suggests a to-do for each thing with a day, and once you confirm it, reminds you that day.
Why voice notes and reminders don't mix
Voice notes are where plans actually get made. "I should call the bank about the charge, probably Thursday, and Maya's birthday is Friday so I need a card before then." That's three plans, two days, and one deadline that isn't stated as a deadline.
None of it becomes a reminder unless you go back, listen, and type each one into Reminders. Most of us don't, which is why the voice note app on your phone is full of plans you've already missed.
Option 1: Siri, one reminder at a time
For a single, clear reminder, Siri is the fastest thing on the iPhone:
- "Hey Siri, remind me to call Sam on Thursday at 10."
- "Hey Siri, remind me to buy a card when I leave work." (location reminders need Location Services on)
It works well when you already know the task, the day and the time, and you're happy to say it in that format. It doesn't help with a ramble, and it can't go back through a recording you already made.
Option 2: talk normally, confirm what Nuro finds
Nuro reads your recording for things that sound like to-dos and dates, and shows them to you after you stop. Nothing lands on your list until you confirm it, so a passing "I should really…" doesn't turn into an obligation.
Once a to-do with a day is on your list, Nuro reminds you:
| What you said | When Nuro reminds you |
|---|---|
| "Send Maya the outline on Friday" | Friday, at the start of your Nudges window (8:00 a.m. by default) |
| "Call the bank Thursday at 2" | Thursday at 1:30 p.m. |
| "Two things for tomorrow…" | Tomorrow morning, in one notification |
| "At some point I should fix the gate" | No reminder. You didn't name a day |
Nuro also never reminds you on a day it had to guess. A reminder for a day you never committed to is Nuro making up an appointment, so only days you actually said trigger one. Tick the to-do off, delete it or move it, and the reminder goes or moves with it.
Tap any to-do and Nuro shows the sentence it came from, so "call about the refund" still makes sense a week later.
Make it work better
- Say the day out loud, even if it feels obvious. "Thursday" is a reminder; "later this week" isn't.
- Say a time when the time matters. Nuro rings half an hour before.
- Confirm right after you record. It takes a few seconds while you still remember what you meant.
- Set your Nudges window to your actual mornings. If 8:00 a.m. is too early, change it in Nuro's settings.
Frequently asked questions
Can I set reminders from a voice memo on iPhone?
Apple's Voice Memos doesn't create reminders from recordings. You can ask Siri to set a reminder directly, or use an app like Nuro that finds the days you mention and reminds you after you confirm.
Does Nuro add reminders to Apple Reminders or my calendar?
No. Nuro sends its own notifications and keeps the to-dos in its own list. It doesn't write to Apple Reminders or your calendar.
What if Nuro gets the day wrong?
Change the day from the to-do, or remove it. Nuro shows where each to-do came from so you can check. More on the rules on the voice note reminders page.
Can I turn reminders off?
Yes. Switch off Nudges in Nuro and nothing dated will ring.
